DESCRIPTION
Modacare 300 mg tablets are stimulants that are formulated to promote wakefulness and improve alertness in individuals suffering from excessive sleep disorders. It is majorly used for Narcolepsy, Shift worker sleep disorder and Obstructive sleep apnea. The active ingredient present in the tablet is Modafinil.Â
Working of Modafinil:
Modafinil primarily targets the neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). One of the key mechanisms that it influences wakefulness is through its effect on dopamine levels. Modafinil inhibits the Dopamine transporter (DAT) that is responsible for the reuptake of dopamine from the synaptic cleft back into the presynaptic neuron. Due to blockage of DAT, modafinil increases the concentration of dopamine in the synaptic cleft which leads to enhanced stimulation of postsynaptic dopamine receptors. This dopaminergic increase is the main reason for wakefulness.
