SAFETY INFORMATION

SIDE EFFECTS 

Some commonly reported side effects you may see are:

• Headaches
• Insomnia
• Anxiety
• Mouth dryness
• Nervousness
• Nausea
• Dizziness or lightheadedness

Rare but serious side effects you should not ignore are:

• Angina (Chest pain or discomfort)
• Cardiovascular complications like heart palpitations or significant changes in a person’s heart rate or blood pressure
• Severe allergic reactions like swelling in the facial area, lips, or throat. Peeling of the skin, mouth ulcers, or even blistering can be experienced.
• Hallucinations or delusions
• Aggressive behaviour
• Mania or other psychotic symptoms

INTERACTIONS 

Drug-Drug Interactions

• Modafinil speeds up the activity of certain liver enzymes involved in breaking down hormonal birth control (pills, patches, implants), which can make these methods less effective and raise the risk of unplanned pregnancy.
• Taking modafinil alongside opioid painkillers may reduce how much of the opioid stays in the bloodstream, potentially leaving pain poorly controlled.
• Modafinil can interact with SSRIs such as citalopram, and this combination should be monitored by a doctor.
• Modafinil affects the metabolism of drugs processed through the CYP2C19 enzyme pathway-this includes some antidepressants, proton pump inhibitors, and anticonvulsants.

Drug-Disease Interactions

• Modafinil may raise blood pressure or heart rate, so it should be used cautiously in people with existing heart conditions.
• It can worsen anxiety, manic symptoms, or psychosis in people prone to these conditions.
• In rare cases, serious skin or systemic reactions such as DRESS syndrome or Stevens-Johnson syndrome have been reported.

PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS 

• Avoid administering the medication too late in the day as it can lead to insomnia. 
• Avoid excess intake of caffeine, soda or chocolates.
• Do not use the medication if you are allergic to Modafinil or any other component of the medication. 
• Avoid alcohol consumption when using this medication as it can increase the risk of dizziness. 
• Avoid self-administration.
• Take this medication with caution as there is a possibility of misuse and dependence with higher doses of the drug. 
• Do not exceed the recommended dose. 
• Use with caution if you have a history of depression, mania or anxiety. 
• Do not drive or operate heavy and hazardous machineries.
