DESCRIPTION
Modvigil 200 mg is a Central Nervous System (CNS) Stimulant that may contain Modafinil as an active ingredient and is used to treat excessive sleepiness associated with Narcolepsy, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and shift-work disorder (SWD). It acts as a nootropic by improving the level of dopamine and other neurotransmitters. It is not a substitute for adequate sleep but when used as directed by a health care professional it may help you to function better during the day.
Mechanism of action
- Dopamine Transporter (DAT) Inhibition: Modafinil is a selective but weak inhibitor of the dopamine transporter which decreases dopamine reuptake and increases extracellular dopamine. This can make you more alert and help you to concentrate better
- Orexin activation: Modafinil seems to enhance orexin (hypocretin) activity in parts of the brain that support wakefulness helping to maintain the sleep wake cycle.
- GABA regulation: GABAergic (inhibitory) tone in some areas of the brain may be decreased, which can help to reduce sleep propensity and promote wakefulness.
