Modvigil 100 mg (Modafinil)

SIDE EFFECTS

Common side effects are:

• Trouble sleeping
• Upset stomach
• Anxiety
• Headaches
• Drowsiness
• Dry mouth or thirst 

Less common side effects are:

• Back or muscle pain 
• Stuffy or runny nose
• Loss of appetite

Severe side effects are:

• Severe skin rashes
• Cardiovascular issues like chest pain, shortness of breath, etc. 
• Severe confusion
• Hallucinations
• Thoughts of self-harm 
• Allergic reactions 

INTERACTIONS 

Medications That Become Less Effective:

• Hormonal Birth Control: Modafinil weakens birth control pills, patches, rings, implants, and certain IUDs. This increases the risk of an accidental pregnancy. You must use a backup barrier method (like condoms) while taking modafinil and for one full month after stopping it. 
• Certain Pain Medications: It can lower the levels of strong opioid pain relievers like fentanyl or hydrocodone in your blood, making them less effective at controlling pain. 
• Immune Suppressants: Drugs like cyclosporine (given after organ transplants or for autoimmune disease) plummet to lower levels, which could cause your body to reject an organ or trigger a flare-up of disease.

Medications That Become Too Strong (Risk of Toxicity):

• Stomach Acid Reducers: Common over-the-counter Reflux medications like Omeprazole (Prilosec) can reach much higher levels than intended. 
• Anti-Anxiety and Sleep Meds: Diazepam (Valium) or Triazolam, for example, stay in your system longer and could make you too sleepy or clumsy. 
• Blood Thinners: Modafinil when combined with Warfarin can cause your blood to become too thin, significantly raising your risk of dangerous bleeding. 

Dangerous Combinations to Avoid:

• Other Stimulants & ADHD Medications: Modafinil combined with other stimulants (Adderall, Ritalin, high doses of caffeine) can lead to rapid heart rate, extreme anxiety and potentially fatal blood pressure. 
• MAOIs (Older Antidepressants): Modafinil can cause a sudden and possibly fatal increase in blood pressure if taken with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (such as phenelzine or selegiline). Caution is advised. 
• Alcohol: Modafinil increases the risk of accidental alcohol poisoning or severe dehydration. 

PRECAUTIONS & WARNINGS 

• Seek emergency help if you experience swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat , or if you have trouble swallowing or breathing. 
• Modafinil can change brain chemistry. Tell your physician immediately if you experience aggression, depression, worsening anxiety, hallucinations or thoughts of self-harm 
• Use a backup barrier method while taking Modvigil 100 mg as it can make hormonal pills less effective. 
• Mixing alcohol with Modvigil 100 mg can cause severe dizziness, unpredictable sleep patterns, etc. 
• Modafinil has a history of abuse and thus must be used with extreme caution. 
• Do not drive or use heavy machineries when using Modvigil 100 mg. 
• Do not change your dose or stop taking it abruptly without guidance of a physician.
